Nottingham Ball Bois completed an amazing first competitive season by beating 25 teams to the GFSN national five-a-side title.
Having qualified from their group comfortably, they faced Village Manchester’s second team in the quarter finals.
The game went to penalties, and Ballbois progressed to the semi-finals where Brighton Bandits were their opposition.
The match was even closer - the south coast side’s experience cancelled out by the Ballbois youth and pace.
Once again the game finished as a draw (0-0) and nerves jangled as penalties once again loomed. Ballbois kept their nerve to go through to the final.
An exciting final saw both sides come close to scoring with the Nottingham keeper pulling off three significant saves.
Inevitably, the game went to penalties again. Seven penalties were all missed in succession (surely some sort of record?) leaving Dave Orange of Nottingham with the unenviable task of taking the final kick knowing that, if he scored, the Ballbois would be winners.
The ball snuck inside the post and Nottingham rounded off a wonderful year with another trophy alongside their Yorkshire 5-a-side trophy.
