GFSN Matchday 4 - December 7th

Posted on November 30th, 2008

The Midlands dominance of the league continues with Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham making up the top three but London Falcons will be looking for the opportunity to break the central stranglehold and let the league know that they are strong contenders to defend their title.

In their way stands a a resurgant and confident Wildecats side, not only the team which the Falcons lost to at home last season, but the team which grabbed the Division 2 Gold at the World Cup.

This game, more so than the Blaze/Ballois game in matchday 3, signifies the balance in strength in gay football. If the Midlanders can pull off a win, there can be no doubt the the power has shifted from the capital to the Midlands.

Birmingham Blaze will be looking to bounce back from their home defeat against Ballbois, by grabbing three points from a team they’ve never beaten: Yorkshire Terriers.

Can former league champions Bournemouth pull an upset away at Nottingham Ballbois, will Brighton and Hotscots pick up points against London Titans and Leftfooters respectively?

Once again, it promises to be an intriguing round of matches and all teams are wished the best of luck for the final matches of 2008.

GFSN Matchday 3

Posted on November 12th, 2008

Will the dominance of the league from the Midlands continue with Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester retaining the top 3 places?

Will the Falcons still be the only London team with points on the board? Can the Terriers kick-start their campaign after a disappointing start?

GFSN Matchday 3 kicks-off this weekend, with some tasty ties to watch out for.

Fresh from demolishing Brighton in the Cup, defending-champions Falcons once again play the South Coast side, and will be looking to make it 2 wins from 3 games and revitalize their league campaign.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire and Titans battle it out at the bottom of the table - with both teams hoping to score their first points of the league campaign.

Leicester travel to Leftfooters and will surely be hoping to top the table with 9 points, although Leftfooters have demonstrated their are no push-overs, following their narrow 2-1 loss to Bournemouth last month.

Hotscots FC make their longest journey of the season, travelling to GFC Bournemouth. Bournemouth have recently beaten Leftfooters and Leicester at home, and will be looking to defend their formidable home record.

Finally, in what promises to be a mouth-watering tie, Birmingham Blaze host Nottingham Ballbois in a “top of the table” clash.

Best of luck to all teams this weekend.

Posted on November 8th, 2008

London Falcons recorded a comprehensive victory over a weakened Brighton Bandits side in the first round of the GFSN Cup.

Meanwhile, GFSN debutants Cardiff Dragons hosted Birmingham Blaze, with the Midlands side ending up winners with a 12-nil scoreline.

London Titans made light work of Leftfooters FC, a 6-1 victory enough to see them through to the quarter-finals.

Yorkshire Terriers defied their recent poor league form, to shrug off title-challengers Nottingham Ballbois 3-2 (AET).

Finally, Leicester Wildecats travelled to GFC Bournemouth, looking to make the final for a second successive season. Unfortunately, Bournemouth demonstrated some of their past formidability by beating the East Midlands side 3-1.

The final First Round tie takes place on Sunday 9th November, Stonewall hosting Newcastle Panthers FC.
