Hotscots vs Ballbois Abandoned

Posted on January 12th, 2009

In what’s thought to be a GFSN League first, the game between Hotscots and Nottingham Ballbois was abandoned this afternoon after 60 minutes due to the incliment weather.

With the East Midlands side already 3-1 up, the game was brought to an abrupt halt after both sides agreed the weather was simply too severe to continue.

Tony Lynn, of Nottingham Ballbois said 60mph driving winds and torrential rain was the reason for the game being abandoned.

However, he also reiterated that the Ballbois contingent - totalling 32 players and supporters - had enjoyed a weekend in the Scottish Capital despite the premature end to the game.

Any replaying of the fixture will be announced in due course.

The arctic weather across the UK had already caused the postponements of three GFSN fixtures this season.

With the quarter-finals of the GFSN Cup approaching, everyone associated with the league will be hoping for better weather in the next few weeks.

GFSN Matchday 5

Birmingham Blaze recorded a fantastic 2-0 away-win against league champions London Falcons on a bitterly cold day in South West London.

The win all-but-ends Falcons chances of retaining their title, with the club now languishing in 7th place in the table.

With Nottingham Ballbois not playing until next weekend, Leicester Wildecats stole a march on their East Midland rivals with a 3-1 win against Yorkshire Terriers.

The scoreline remained 1-1 until the final few minutes of the game, when two late goals for the Wildecats secured victory on the Astroturf at South Leeds Stadium.

The game was played on AstroTurf after a cold snap affected all the games across the country.

London Titans vs GFC Bournemouth was postponed due to a frozen pitch, as was Leftfooters FC vs Brighton Bandits.

Leicester’s win means Nottingham Ballbois must travel to Edinburgh this weekend (11th Jan) and return home with all three points against Hotscots, if they wish to keep pace at the top of the table.
