Nottingham Ballbois 2008/09 Champions

Posted on April 26th, 2009

Nottingham Ballbois were confirmed GNL Champions for 2008/2009 after beating Leicester Wildecats 1-0 at Victoria Embankment.

The East Midlands side have won every game en-route to the title so far, with one game remaining against London Titans on May 10th.

The goal, scored by James H, came in the final few minutes of the match in a tie noted for it’s spirit and fair-play.

Nottingham will be presented with the trophy and medals on May 10th after their game with London Titans.

Meanwhile, the Titans defeated Leftfooters 4-nil at Wormwood Scrubs to give themselves a chance of finishing in the top three. They must hope for a win against Ballbois in their final game, and hope Birmingham Blaze and Leicester draw in the final game of the league season.

Birmingham Blaze defeated Brighton Bandits 3-1 as they battle for 2nd place, and GFC Bournemouth travelled to Yorkshire and returned victorious after beating Terriers 2-1.

The last two matches (rearranged from February) take place on May 10th:

Nottingham Ballbois vs London Titans
Birmingham Blaze vs Leicester Wildecats

Congratulations to Nottingham Ballbois.

Birmingham Player Injury

Posted on April 20th, 2009

All players and supporters of the GFSN League would like to wish Ian C, of Birmingham Blaze, a speedy recovery.

Ian suffered an impact fracture which has broken both the tibia and fibia in his right leg in Birmingham’s game against Yorkshire on Sunday 19th April.

Hopefully Ian will be having surgery this weekand will need to stay in hospital in Sheffield (where the game was played) for a couple of days before hopefully moving closer to his home town at the end of the week.

Everyone associated with the league is really shocked and sadden to hear of the injury, and hope to see him back on the football pitch as soon as he can.

The GFSN League is pleased to announce that the GFSN Cup Final will be hosted by Woking FC.

The 6,000 seater stadium will host the final on Sunday 3rd May, with kick-off at 1pm.  Many thanks to London Titans chairman, and Woking matchday announcer, Andy Turner for liaising with the club and making it happen.

Woking play in the Blue Square Premiership (commonly referred to as the Conference).  They currently lanquish in 21st position - a relegation spot.  They have one more game remaining (which the must win) and hope other results go their way.

The two GFSN teams competing in the final are GFC Bournemouth and Hotscots FC.

Bournemouth reached the final last month defeating Village Manchester on penalties, whilst Hotscots FC reached the final after a superb 3-2 win away at London Falcons (AET).
