GFC Bournemouth & Hampshire

GFC Bournemouth & Hampshire were formed in May 2005 by Dave Maxwell after he moved from London to Dorset.

Originally intended as an informal group playing on alternate Sundays in Meyrick Park, Bournemouth, by the end of 2005 it had attracted sufficient numbers to begin playing weekly, alternating between Bournemouth and Southampton, from where many of its players were recruited.

In February 2006 the club acquired its first kit in order to accept an invitation from the London Titans to play a friendly match.

In March, the club made its first appearance on the national stage when it entered the Yorkshire 5-a-side and emerged victorious. Further friendlies followed and
in the summer of 2006 the club was invited to join the GFSN League.

In a memorable first season, the club won both the league title and the inaugural GFSN Cup. It also entered and won the London Unity League and won two
further tournaments.

In July 2008 the club changed its name from 'GFC Bournemouth' to 'GFC Bournemouth & Hampshire' in order to better reflect its catchment area. It now trains and socialises in both Southampton and Portsmouth, as well as in Bournemouth itself.

Its short name will continue to be 'GFC Bournemouth'.
